One of the most popular instant messaging service WhatsApp might adopt a few features from its parent company, Facebook. The independent service is currently rumoured to be testing a new Like button along with a Mark as Unread feature.

The other feature, Mark has Unread which is currently being tested by Whatsapp will offer users the ability to mark messages as unread. It is unclear at the moment how this will affect the Read receipt blue ticks on the sender’s device or if it will only be ‘unseen’ for the receiver.

According to a report by Adslzone, WhatsApp currently uses blue coloured check marks to denote read messages. The new feature will allow users to reverse the process. The report adds that the received the information via an internal WhatsApp translation document.

Recently, WhatsApp for Web was updated to include some mobile-like features including more control over chats and group conversations. Users will now see more options in the browser version too. Firstly, you can edit your profile photo and status message. Some UI tweaks have also been included in this update. The Settings option will now show overflow for chats, allowing users to delete and archive chats. In addition, users can also archive, mute and exit group chats.

According to some screenshots by AndroidPolice, WhatsApp for Web also gets keyboard shortcuts for each of the actions. However, they appear and reappear sporadically, adds the report. This could mean, WhatsApp is still working on the feature. The contacts and group information panes have also been slightly tweaked. One will find big red buttons to delete chats or exit groups. Unlike your phone, you don’t need wait for an update or manually enable it under Settings, they are simply server triggered.

Beta tester Ilhan Pektas posted on Twitter that WhatsApp’s test build has a ‘like’ button for images. This indicates that the company might allow users to like their friend’s profile picture or could introduce this feature in group chats too.
